Ancient Hatra - Iraq

Visit

Hatra is an ancient fortified city located in the desert region of present-day Iraq, approximately 110 kilometers southwest of the city of Mosul. The city was founded in the 3rd century BC and became an important center of trade and culture in the Parthian Empire.

Hatra was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985, but it has suffered damage and destruction in recent years due to conflict and looting. The Iraqi government and international organizations are working to preserve and restore the city's remaining structures and artifacts, but the process has been slow and challenging due to ongoing security concerns in the region.
